Quotes by Nick Saban

Nick Saban

“The best way to disrespect somebody is to just walk away from them. But that is the show business part of what we have to deal with, and to me its wrong. Its a bad example for young people to see and its not the kind of character and attitude that we want our players to represent this organization in, our owner, the Miami Dolphins ... or the people on the team who all have to suffer because of that.”

“Just like in Scent of a Woman , you know, when the guy is up there and Al Pacino gives the speech to the headmaster -- give him a chance.”

“That issue has gone under the bridge, under the next bridge, over the next dam and is gone.”

“We need a little time to figure that out. Were going to take it from where it is and build for 12 games.”

“We have an idea of how were going to use him, but we dont have an idea of where he is in terms of how much well use him. Theres a difference. You try to bring players back role-wise without putting them at risk for injury.”

“Im assuming that he will be in a decent place from a physical-conditioning standpoint, and it will take a little while to get him back to where he was. But he was in pretty good condition when this started and I think hes worked hard, and I think it will come back quickly to him.”

“I know youre going to ask me, What are you going to do about it? ... And Im going to tell you right now, Im not sure.”

“What happens to everybody else has nothing to do with us, understand?”

“I dont think you want me to say what I think about that,”

“They double-covered him a couple of times, actually, so it was the right choice not to throw it to him. But hes a guy we need to have involved in the offense.”

“Thats all bull, Its an excuse, and Im not giving the players an excuse. You either have discipline or you dont. If were going to give them a reason to fail all the time ... Its like my kid: `You got a D on the test? I dont want to hear about it.You didnt prepare well enough. You didnt have enough discipline to do what you had to do when you had to do it the way it was supposed to get done.”

Its great to see our players get some of their dreams come true.

We all have anxiety about things. We all have little insecurities, but eventually you have to face your fears if you want to be successful, and everybody has some fear of failure.

I guess Im motivated by the fear of failure to some degree and knowing what can happen when you dont do things the way you need to do them to have success.

If youre a coach, youre a teacher.

When you invest your time, you make a goal and a decision of something that you want to accomplish. Whether its make good grades in school, be a good athlete, be a good person, go down and do some community service and help somebody whos in need, whatever it is you choose to do, youre investing your time in that.

The thing I like about college football so much is you can affect these guys a lot more when they are 18-22, 23 years old in terms of people and having a chance to be more successful. They are still a value type development, where you have a chance to help them mature a bit and help them be a little more successful in life.

Theres two parts of leadership. Youve got to be a good leader - youve got to be somebody that people want to emulate and care about the other people. But the other guys that you have have to accept their leadership. They have to respond to it. Thats the chemistry that you never know how that is going to happen.

Everybody thinks when I say a guy is a good game manager, thats a negative, but I think its a real positive. You have the ball in your hand every time when youre a quarterback. Whether youre handing it off or throwing to somebody, I think thats extremely important.

My wife goes to Birmingham five times a week. My mom lives in Birmingham now after moving from Myrtle Beach. Its not just the job. A lot of people dont get that. My life is here.
