“Latinos are very sensitive to different accents. I sort of lost my Mexican accent, and thats what they were looking for in this case — some sort of neutral accent that could be understood on both coasts and in different Hispanic communities: Puerto Ricans on the East Coast, Cubans in Fort Lauderdale and Mexican-Americans in Los Angeles.”

“What is surprising, ... how little attention [the memo] has received in some of the most important news media in the United States despite its being an official document that contradicts the North American version of the beginning of the war.”

“The restaurant business is definitely exciting, with lots of energy that goes way beyond whats on the plate, ... I do a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff. My forte is financing and numbers.”

“We still have a long way to go, but the commitment is there.”

“Often [our non-native Spanish-speaking listeners] are nervous about being on the air, worried that they might make a mistake. But we receive plenty of e-mails from English-speaking soccer fans who listen to us regularly.”

I didnt want to be an immigrant. I was forced to be an immigrant. Alexis de Tocqueville, the French writer, said that the powerful and the happy never go into exile. He was right.

Elie Wiesel says that neutrality only helps the oppressor, never the victim. And I think you can apply that to journalism.

What I find most interesting about the U.S. is this idea of equality.

What I find most interesting about the U.S. is this idea of equality. Thats what Im trying to do with immigration. If what the founding fathers said is true, that we are all equal, then lets fight for that.

Happiness for me is the people whom you love, love you back.

My only advice is, follow your dream and do whatever you like to do the most. I chose journalism because I wanted to be in the places where history was being made.

When it comes to racism, discrimination, corruption, public lies, dictatorships, and human rights, you have to take a stand as a reporter because I think our responsibility as journalist is to confront those who are abusing power.

What Ill say is that Cuban-Americans dont have to deal with the same immigration issues as other nationalities because of the wet feet, dry feet policy. For Cubans, one year after you touch United States territory, you can become a legal resident.
