Quotes by Isabelle Huppert

“Acting is a way of living out ones insanity.”

“My moms a Catholic, and my dads a Jew, and they didnt want anything to do with anything.”

“Yes, it happens very often that someone comes and gives you something, ... But not so many good ones, which makes it easier.”

“Yes, that is true, ... A mutual friend of ours told me that Alexandra wanted to give me that script, so she didnt come out of nowhere. But it did take me a while before I read it. Then she insisted every morning and after a few months I read it and I thought, Oh my God, its very good.”

“The story is very cruel and very sharp,”

“outstanding contribution to cinema.”

“Venice brings me luck. There is no great role without a great director, so from the bottom of my heart I thank Patrice.”

“Im standing all the way through the piece, very stiff like a tree, very much rooted in the earth, ... Its like she was wishing to die standing, to die alive. Its a strange feeling.”

“If I seem detached or distant, its because I think this is a more exact reproduction of life, where you hide as much as you show. When I see a scene in which feelings get loudly exteriorized, I say to myself, Well, at least this never happens to me. I very rarely go through this type of expression. Most of the time things are hidden or at least much more subdued.”

“Im very happy. But when this sort of thing happens, its best to have a certain detachment.”

I really admire people who don’t need to live surrounded by lots of stuff. My bedroom is piled up with clothes and books, papers and photographs. I like to collect things, anything I can grab from wherever I’m travelling. I think it’s the sign of slight anxiety to always want something around you to represent a good moment you had, to hang on to the leftovers. But then they’re a pleasure to look at too, so it’s not all negative.
