“Submission is not about authority and it is not obedience; it is all about relationships of love and respect.”
“The poem is common-sense relationships. It's really what it is, ... All the lines are different relationships and if you look at it, you'll see that. Honesty and truth are relationships. If you're honest with your children, they learn truth, you see. Or if you're truthful with them, they learn honesty. They're just a few that are a jump like, `acceptance equals love,' but they are really just common knowledge.”
When our grandparents failed, they had comfortable spiritual furniture to rest in. They had, for the most part, their relationship to God, their relationship to a nation they loved, their relationship to a community and a large extended family. Faith in God, community, nation, and the large extended family have all eroded in the last forty years, and the spiritual furniture that we used to sit in has become threadbare.
Women and men who have established no-lie relationships talk about them with reverence, even when they are not permanent and, in fact, even when they are not romantic. Why? You each act as though you are in a real partnership that will last.
Good Christian liturgy is friendship in action, love taking thought, the covenant relationship between God and his people not simply discovered and celebrated like the sudden meeting of friends, exciting and worthwhile though that is, but thought through and relished, planned and prepared -- an ultimately better way for the relationship to grow and at the same time a way of demonstrating what the relationship is all about.
My mum wants me to get married - and have children, of course. She's met Gaga; we've been dating a while. We're in a committed relationship, and I'm really happy in my relationship. I'm a very lucky guy. As far as having more of a domestic life and settling down into my relationship, we have to see what happens.
“We never had an economic relationship with Russia before the fall of the Berlin Wall, so we could push Russia, and there was never any risk of economic war. Our relationship with China is much more complex.”
“The e-mail relationships that I have are kind of fantastic, because I think you get to fill in your relationships a little bit if you actually get the time to sit down and compose a note to someone.”
“I would do as I was told, but I had a growing resentment about what was happening. It damaged my relationship with the rest of the group and it made my personal relationships very difficult. And there was so much drinking.”
“[Pediatricians have particular concerns because they tend to have long-standing relationships with their patients and families.] There's no question you become integrally involved (with families) and should be, ... It's a unique relationship like clergymen have.”
