“We've got some veterans who are great players, and our younger people have really stepped up. This team has done so well, but the biggest challenges we have still lie ahead of us. We want to finish 10-0 in the division, win the conference championship match and make it downstate again.”
“We have the largest number of freshman out we've ever had, ... It's also the biggest team we've had since we restarted cross country. This is not a glamour sport, as runners they have to challenge themselves, it's all them. The sportsmanship is great out there. Cross country represents what high school sports should be.”
“The challenge is to really empower people to voice their values and concerns and get them to talk to their friends, their families, their neighbors and the people that represent them. That is really where the Sierra Club is now moving: more locally, getting individual citizens reconnected to their communities, and helping them really take responsibility for the future of the environment. Not just nationally but in communities where they live.”
Regarding beliefs and belief systems: We argue what and how we feel, rather than what we - actually - know or assume to be facts or factual evidence. Thus, it is justifiably prudent to challenge that which has been adopted or enforced by tradition. If such examination is discouraged by fearful tactics - we must not shy away from soulful searching.
I challenge you to go after whatever it is you want in life. Don't die without trying to be all that you can be. In this book, I'm not encouraging you to sit back, nod and agree with me. I'm strongly encouraging you to go out and live your life to the full, do amazing things and be the best that you can be.
... With the rise of modern scientific (or 'rational') knowledge religion is, for the first time, challenged by the disparate claims of other life-orders (Lebensordnungen)... a polytheistic and disordered world of competing values and ideals... the economic, political, aesthetic, erotic and intellectual, which, with the onset of modernity, separate out into relatively autonomous realms (the process of Eigengeseztlichkeit) with their own value-spheres (Wertsphären).
“The course challenges many of the ideas and beliefs that so many of us hold with little investigation into a proper defense for these thoughts. Though the process can sometimes be frustrating, I'd rather have a process that makes me reconsider my thoughts about important issues than to progress through life having never considered the ramifications of my positions.”
“Family Dollar has an enormously challenging task of communicating effectively with thousands of new employees across the country, and we are thrilled that the company has selected Angel.com for a new IVR solution. As a national leader in its industry that truly understands the value of IVR, Family Dollar is an exceptional new customer and we look forward to a great relationship.”
“Some people would say: 'Stay in Dallas. The situation there is good.' We're three-quarters of the way through building a brand new house in Dallas. Hopefully I'm not viewed as a young, naive coach coming into a situation here. I'm excited about this opportunity. I know it's a challenge and we're going to roll our sleeves up.”
The challenge of abating one with a genuine ego problem is to not try to put him down. Any and all antagonization, in his mind, is merely compensated for by his own descriptions: his feelings of persecution by the envious and his ideals of worth. Arguably, the genuine ego is more of a circumstantial defense mechanism rather than a steady arrogance in need of starvation.
