“It had become a dream for him, something God had been inviting him to do and preparing him for. It seemed to culminate a lot of pieces of who he was, his creativity, his passion for people, for the story and engaging in something larger than life. The sea is just huge, and it is what it is. Aaron was excited to be part of that.”

“To translate, one must have a style of his own, for otherwise the translation will have no rhythm or nuance, which come from the process of artistically thinking through and molding the sentences; they cannot be reconstituted by piecemeal imitation. The problem of translation is to retreat to a simpler tenor of one's own style and creatively adjust this to one's author.”

China failed to maintain its technological lead, and a similar failure throughout Asia to take advantage of the early exposure to that head start transformed precocity into a false dawn. Perversely, Asian improvements and adaptations of current (twentieth- to twenty-first-century) Western-developed technology are taken as further signs of lack of creativity.

How do you tell a young girl in her formative years that the real value, real wealth is only in acquisition of knowledge through higher education? In caring for the downtrodden as well as the learned. In committing yourself to the matters of culture and creativity, when your own life has been complete antithesis of the same?

“The purpose of this program has always been to help spur creativity among scientists, in the hopes that unrestricted grants would move us closer to the day when the tragic suffering caused by this disease is but a memory. Our 20th anniversary honors scientists for their important work and renews our commitment to helping find a cure.”
