Be wild; that is how to clear the river. The river does not flow in polluted, we manage that. The river does not dry up, we block it. If we want to allow it its freedom, we have to allow our ideational lives to be let loose, to stream, letting anything come, initially censoring nothing. That is creative life. It is made up of divine paradox. To create one must be willing to be stone stupid, to sit upon a throne on top of a jackass and spill rubies from one’s mouth. Then the river will flow, then we can stand in the stream of it raining down.
Deal resistance a death blow and make sweet love to your art all night long. Put on your fishnet thigh highs and your patent leather stilettos and your special occasion lingerie. Seduce the hell out of your own creative soul. It’s time for an epic lap dance. Dance for your paint and canvas, for fingers tripping across keyboard, for the open arms of motherhood, for the layers of flavor in the meals you create. Wind your hips down for the click of the shutter, for the 3 a.m. bathroom poem, for the late night lesson planning
“Most people in this country are looking for literature that is useful. They feel that just exploring their feelings is good enough - they should be reading about leveraged buy-outs or how to get thin. We live in a culture that is so absolutely, madly focused on commercialism and on creating money and completely turned away from any other kind of creative value. People don't generally turn to poetry unless they're bereaved or have fallen in love. Or in adolescence, when their feelings are very strong and turbulent. I think most of us are dying for lack of spirit in this culture.”
“We didn't believe that was going to get to that level. We sat down with him for the better part of two hours to discuss our thoughts and our plans. He wanted to foster as many creative ideas as possible on how to make Catholic schools survive when many are failing.”
“Publishers are locked in to a mind-set of 'this is how we do books,' but the Web doesn't have any physical limitations. This is a much more fluid medium, and there is an opportunity here to surface different kinds of creativity. Poets could sell individual poems to an audience that cares about that kind of thing.”
“The recruiters, I think, are even more enthusiastic about it because what companies want is people who can add value, people who can contribute. And therefore they value smartness, they value good grades and a good education, but they really like that practical intelligence and that creative ability,”
“Not only is the Web site creative and fun, it provides a wonderful overview of the basic scientific concepts involved with electricity and natural gas. It also has important safety messages that can prevent injuries and save lives. It is a wonderful resource for any youngster who wants to learn about energy.”
“There's a demonstration of the essence of the brand, of creativity. In this case, it's not just talking about it, it's actually producing the bottles. The added touch of 'lights-on' and 'lights-off' views is really smart as well. The idea of seeing them in context at a bar or party makes them that much more desirable.”
“Ryan is really excited about this year and making an even bigger name for himself for the MLS Draft. He's very creative and such a great passer. Matt is an unpredictable player because he can use his right and left foot. He's hard-working and is a big part of the attack.”
“For me prophetic art is a venue for cathartic creative expression. It appeals to everyone, it doesn't matter where you come from. It's basically a way of helping people communicate their feelings, their thoughts, and their life experiences. Drawing all of that together you could look at it as being a visible prayer.”
