“We shouldn't teach great books; we should teach a love of reading. Knowing the contents of a few works of literature is a trivial achievement. Being inclined to go on reading is a great achievement.”
“We're entering an era where delivery platforms mean less and less to an audience. The consolidation of these networks within the broadcast business speaks to the consolidation of power within the hands of station owners and the general entertainment conglomerates, but underneath that is a fundamental sea change in the way younger consumers experience media. They won't feel limited, because they can reach out in so many ways to get content. We're not in an age anymore where content distribution is limited to broadcast stations.”
I have frequently seen people become neurotic when they content themselves with inadequate or wrong answers to the questions of life. They seek position, marriage, reputation, outward success of money, and remain unhappy and neurotic even when they have attained what they were seeking. Such people are usually confined within too narrow a spiritual horizon. Their life has not sufficient content, sufficient meaning. If they are enabled to develop into more spacious personalities, the neurosis generally disappears.
We should fix ourselves firmly in the presence of God by conversing all the time with Him...we should feed our soul with a lofty conception of God and from that derive great joy in being his. We should put life in our faith. We should give ourselves utterly to God in pure abandonment, in temporal and spiritual matters alike, and find contentment in the doing of His will, whether he takes us through sufferings or consolations.
There are people who are never content, never appeased, forever dissatisfied—who continually look to what escapes them, convincing themselves that if only they could attain that one desire outside of reach they would be happy. It seems almost pointless to give to these people because their eyes immediately shift from the gift to stare miserably at the portion held back. Their wants, demands, expectations, appetites are never satiated, thus they refuse to be happy. And you cannot make them so.
“It was 23-12, and we should have been content to go into the half down 11. But we got greedy and took a few ill-advised shots. And then we were down 31-12.”
“I don't think it's affecting their play, but it's definitely not letting them be as loose as they would. They worry about injury, because they don't want to get hurt and take themselves out of contention.”
“The content isn't the focus. There's so much information available out there right now. It's become a minimum standards. The focus still must be looking at the transaction. That's where the profit lies.”
“As CBS recently proved with the live streaming of the NCAA tournament, content is the once and forever king. So it's entirely strategic and smart for ABC and other networks to show their best programs on multiple platforms.”
“You need to understand how to organize and manage the content; how is the information being produced, and who is producing it. Second, you should look at the needs of the users and understand what information they want and need.”
